the pathways to get there," says Damian LaCroix, superintendent of the HowardSuamico School District. "It's one thing to know that there are opportunities in engineering, for example, but another thing to have a working knowledge of 'how do I get from A to B to C to D' as it relates to pursuing that goal." LaCroix, who co-chairs the committee with Northeast Wisconsin Technical College President Jeff Rafn, cites the committee's charter: "Our goal is to 'create seamless lifelong learning pathways starting at birth and lasting throughout the lifetime . . . with multiple entry, reentry and exit points.'" Two web resources being promoted by the committee are getting more and more attention. One is WisCareers (www.wiscareers.wisc.edu), a career development website that helps youth and adults understand career options, and how best to prepare for them. WisCareers has comprehensive information about more than 700 occupations, and helps users explore how their unique set of interests, skills and values can be applied in their career. These organizations are partners in NEW ERA – the Northeast Wisconsin Educational Resource Alliance: C ollege of Menominee Nation F ox Valley Technical College L akeshore Technical College M oraine Park Technical College N ortheast Wisconsin Technical College U niversity of WisconsinFox Valley U niversity of WisconsinManitowoc U niversity of WisconsinMarinette U niversity of WisconsinSheboygan U niversity of WisconsinGreen Bay U niversity of Wisconsin Extension (statewide) U niversity of WisconsinOshkosh U niversity of WisconsinFond du Lac The other is Wisconsin Career Pathways (www.wicareerpathways. org), a site that explains the 16 nationally recognized career clusters and the pathways – or subgroupings of occupations and career specialties – that fall under them. Suggested programs of study are included, which helps students map out an academic plan based on their interests and goals.
