Executive Director Moving forward: Collaborating to develop the brand, business and talent Mid-year reports are kind of like half birthdays; they serve as reminders that the clock is ticking, but that you also need to pause (briefly) to reflect and celebrate accomplishments in real time. This Mid-Year Report includes an updated dashboard on project work and a couple of focus articles highlighting project samples within each of the three main "buckets" of work for the New North region: talent development, business development and brand development. First up is the successful collaboration among Northeast Wisconsin's Education Resource Alliance (NEWERA) that will launch new engineering programming that responds directly to the region's talent needs in support of our manufacturing sector. This is a huge accomplishment, a great collaboration among colleges and universities. Next, the "Northeast Wisconsin Business Locator" was introduced at the 2012 New North Summit in Appleton. The regional, placebased values included in the book bring clarity to what everyone in New North intrinsically knows: That this is a fantastic place to do business. The brochure details for all of us the "why" behind that belief. As a new tool, we need to engage everyone in using it to define New North as a great business location to expand or to bring new companies home. Learn about how one regional business is doing just that – using the tool to spread the word. The final sample highlight is an update on the collaboration work designed to increase export activity in the New North region. "Global New North" has moved from a market research project to a five-part action plan and is now on to implementation. This work is bringing cohesion and strategic focus to encourage firms to consider export markets for market expansion and diversification. The article talks about steps taken and about next steps leading to increased New North exports. We aren't getting older … we're getting better and better.
