FINAL FRAME A SMALL PIECE OF AN ICONIC BUILDING FROM APPLETON'S PAST will live on a bit longer in one of downtown Green Bay's newest projects. When Initiative One commissioned a $2.5 million redevelopment for its 6,000-square-foot headquarters at Adams and Walnut streets in Green Bay, the company was looking to create a unique space for its leadership development programs. e end result features a 50-foot-long wall in the company's seminar room that mimics the architecture of an Appleton hotel torn down in the 1960s. It more than mimics the building, however. e copper window façades adorning the wall are the original copper work from the hotel, built in 1886 as the Outagamie Inn. It was later known as the Sherman House and finally the Conway Hotel. e facades from the 300-room hotel, which was located on what is now the Lawrence University campus, have been in storage since the hotel was razed. Initiative One Founder and CEO Fred Johnson, who describes himself as a bit of history buff, told media touring the installation the facades were a treasure he was only too happy to add to the building, which includes a mix of both modern, open workspaces and historical touches such as the window facades, reclaimed wood floors and tables from a Jim Beam distillery. — By Sean P.
