Miron Construction Co., Inc. has cleared the 3.5-acre site that will accommodate a 60,000-square-foot precast addition that will house the new feta cheese processes. is phase of the project includes approximately 39,000 square feet of production storage; four new loading docks; convertible dry storage; equipment, locker and break rooms and a new maintenance area. e work is part of a $55 million investment Agropur is making to expand and update its facilities in Weyauwega to keep pace with the growing demand for feta cheese. Production in Wisconsin has grown from 8.1 million pounds in 1993 to 80.1 million pounds in 2013, according to statistics from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Feta cheese made at Agropur's Weyauwega plant was named Best of Class in the feta class at the 2014 World Championship Cheese Contest held in Madison, and also garnered Best of Class honors in the feta class in the 2013 United States Championship Cheese Contest. Agropur is Canada's largest dairy cooperative in terms of annualized sales — $3.8 billion in the last fiscal year. e company processes milk at 36 plants across North America and employs 7,500.
