large original equipment manufacturers
(OEMs) among a broad customer base.
Thus, the certification that is offered
by LTC to each student who completes
the training is valuable, not just
internally for LDI to record personnel
achievements, but also to customers
who realize an added credential from
their vendor.
Calling it a win-win event, Lukas
praises the process and benefits, later
repeated at LDI's facility in Huntley, Ill.
in 2012, where 18 additional employees
were trained. Lukas says his company
was pleasantly surprised when LTC
agreed to go to Illinois.
The results have been even more
pleasing, Lukas says.
"We see improvements in product,
savings on paint, and internally people
learn better housekeeping and the
work areas are cleaner," he says.
The program is called VirtualPaint®
. Polly Abts, LTC's training director for
workforce solutions, says the process
used is based on the VirtualPaint®
software and technology developed by
the Iowa Waste Reduction Center, a
division of the University of Northern
Iowa in conjunction with Southwest
Research Institute. LTC acquired its
own system in 2008.
