One New North company is hoping to reverse that trend through a unique partnership focused on employee wellness. Earlier this year, Appleton (formerly Appleton Papers) opened a workplace medical clinic on its Appleton campus. Managed by ThedaCare, it's staffed with a primary care physician, registered nurse, a licensed practical nurse and two health coaches. The onsite clinic improves employee access to health care and provides a greater emphasis on lifestyle management programs – such as smoking cessation and weight loss – health coaching and disease management, says Kerry Arent, senior vice president of human resources with Appleton. "We have long been committed to helping our employees improve their health, such as an onsite fitness center. This is just the next step," she says. "Healthy employees have a better quality of life, are more engaged and work more safely.
