26 | /INSIGHT ON MANUFACTURING • Januar y 2015 w w w.in s i g h t o n m f g . c o m PLANT|NEWS GEORGIA-PACIFIC OVERCOMES LOGISTICAL HURDLE TO DELIVER NEW, EFFICIENT BOILER A three-story-tall natural gas boiler destined for the Georgia-Pacific Green Bay Broadway Mill made it more than 800 miles from Port Weller, Ontario, on the 436-foot oceangoing cargo ship Palmerton — which turned out to be too large to clear the final railroad bridge on the Fox River. So instead of docking and unloading at the Georgia-Pacific boat slip, the boiler had to be unloaded from the Palmerton and barged up the river for the final two miles of its journey. The natural gas boiler was purchased from Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group, Inc., headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., and was manufactured by Trenergy Inc., a St. Catharines, Ontario-based maker of pressure vessels, boilers EVENT|NEWS MOTY, MANUFACTURING MATTERS! PLANNED FOR FEB. 26 O n Thursday, Feb. 26, both the Manufacturing Matters! conference and the Manufacturer of the Year award program will be held in Milwaukee. Manufacturing Matters! is sponsored by the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership and will be held from 7 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee, 333 W. Kilbourn Ave. The conference offers opportunities for learning, networking and collaboration. The keynote session features Mike Laszkiewicz, vice president and general manager of Rockwell Automation. The ship was too wide to clear the last railroad bridge on the Fox River, so the boiler had to be brought by barge the final two miles to the Broadway Mill facility.
