F Besides checking the chicks' overall health and condition, researchers attach uniquely lettered and numbered metal bands on the birds' legs. The bands provide researchers important information on the birds' movements, better understanding of their habitat needs year-round, and also help identify falcons that are observed later as nesting adults, or found injured or dead.
