Construction is expected to wrap up by the end of July. In total, TDS will be installing about 22,000 feet of fiber within the Grand Chute Business Park. Appleton-based White Construction Co. is doing the network construction. This fiber-build is part of TDS's strategy to expand fiber into business parks to provide area businesses a competitive advantage. TDS has also expanded fiber to business parks in Neenah, Kimberly and Appleton. wAsmer compAny to hire 38 new employees The New Holstein-based Wasmer Company, an energy efficiency consulting firm, will receive a $187,826 grant from Wisconsin Fast Forward, allowing the company an opportunity to triple in size. Wasmer will create a customized training program at Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland and train 57 workers, including 38 new hires, to implement energy-efficient building control systems. The Wasmer Company works with business owners around the world, educating them about cutting costs and increasing productivity and profitability while reducing the negative effects energy consumption has on air quality and water supply. Wisconsin Fast Forward is a Department of Workforce Development program that helps address the state's need for skilled workers. The last recordable OSHA incident within the a fter months of design, collaboration and construction, six Project Mini-Chopper teams from five schools displayed their completed choppers to the public at the Mini-Chopper Unveiling Event in April at the Manitowoc County Ice Center. The mission of Project Mini-Chopper is to help students, parents, educators and the community understand the available career opportunities while creating a skilled workforce to meet manufacturing needs. Throughout the school year, the student teams gained real-life experience in the manufacturing world by working hand-in-hand with their corporate partners in designing, fabricating and troubleshooting the bike, as well as managing the budget, schedule and overall project. The Chamber of Manitowoc County and The Economic Development Corporation of Manitowoc County partnered with local businesses and the county school districts to help the students. This year's program sponsors included Broadwind Energy, Lakeshore Technical College, Manitowoc Cranes and Miller-St. Nazianz.
