November 2013 The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will award one $550 scholarship to a Girls, Engineering, Math, Science (GEMS) conference alumnus who is interested in pursuing a degree at Marian University, Moraine Park Technical College or the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) field. The AAUW scholarship is open to girls that have attended at least one GEMS conference; are a high school senior or college freshman; are enrolled in college or plan to enroll; or have plans to go into a STEM field. FDL sees growth in manufacturing sector The Fond du Lac Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) showed strong growth for the first seven months of 2013 in manufacturing and financial services, and moderate growth in the leisure and hospitality sectors, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Growth in the manufacturing sector was 4.8 percent for the MSA versus 1.6 percent for the nation. Growth of Mercury Marine, Wells Vehicle Electronics, Alliance Laundry Systems and McNeilus Steel contributed to the MSA's rating.
