We are one of the leaders in the machine tool world and produce some of the largest CNC (computer numeric control) machines in North America. How does your company's product(s) make a difference in peoples' lives? Our customers come from all different fields — like aerospace, ship building, oil and gas, mining and agriculture. With almost daily changing technologies, our machines help produce better products at their facilities. In fact, during the COVID-19 pandemic, our company was deemed a necessity because some of our customers were using our CNC machines to produce medical ventilators. What are your job duties? My job is to perform different kinds of tests on the machine and troubleshoot electrical issues as they come up. I work with our assembly team to set up machines' hydraulics and pneumatics operations to a point where we can run the machine without any issues. Why do you enjoy your job? The main reason why I absolutely enjoy my job is because it is extremely challenging. With constantly changing technology, we get to see and figure out some machine operations and features that are being developed or applied for the first time. What classes, extracurricular activities and training most prepared you with the necessary skills? Georgia-Pacific is one of the biggest commercial tissue & towel manufacturers. At the Green Bay Broadway mill, we produce several types of papers. We focus on EPA-approved grades using mostly recycled fibers, but virgin fiber as well. How does your company's product(s) make a difference in people's lives? Our company helps keep the environment clean by making paper and finished products from recycled fibers. What are your job duties? My responsibilities are maintaining automated equipment, conducting predictive/preventive maintenance, and also remote troubleshooting. Why do you enjoy your job? I love my job because every day is a new learning experience for me. I like to learn new things. Georgia-Pacific has always given me the push to keep learning about the papermaking industry and technology that keeps growing every day. What classes, extracurricular activities and training prepared you the most with the necessary skills? I think the best training that prepared me was that I always like to fix things on my own. Also, I've learned a lot of repair skills on the paper machines.
