It's been quite a start
to the day. Walleyes, sauger, crappie,
smallmouth bass and northern pike have all
answered the early morning wake-up call at
our first stop at an island we nicknamed Eagle
Island. Sharon Gusick, owner of Pine Sunset
Lodge is guiding our journey today. We are off
to a great start.
Then as the sun rises in the sky, we make
a short trip to Sandbar Island. Another great
decision. We begin hooking walleye after
walleye. The action is great so I decide to
get some video. As I am recording my wife
Jill catching a walleye in Sharon's boat, I
notice Stacey getting ready for more action
in our boat. She allows the fish to take the
bait and then she leans back into a stiff hook
set. The line peels off her reel. "I don't think
that's a walleye," Sharon says as she directs
Stacey to just let the fish go where it wants.
Sure enough, the ensuing fight produces a
beautiful 37" northern pike that could not
resist the jig and minnow combination.
