J O H N S O N FINAL FRAME IT'S THE ONE PLACE IN SUMMER WHERE YOU RUN INTO FRIENDS and neighbors: a local weekend farmer's market. e concept, which is popular in communities throughout Wisconsin, is branching away from the typical weekend morning. "We were hearing from others that a mid-week market would be a nice addition for those wanting something smaller than our regular Saturday market," says Djuanna Hugdahl, event coordinator for Appleton Downtown Inc. "A lot of people go up north on the weekend, so this is a great opportunity for those people to get what they need before they leave for the weekend." Businesses in downtown Appleton are embracing the newest Wednesday event in Houdini Plaza and the foot traffic it brings. e market offers live entertainment and other activities to appeal to families and visitors of all ages. Hugdahl says businesses are staying open longer to accommodate visitors. "e goal is to increase foot traffic within the area, and we are lucky to be near such great businesses who are promoting us, just as much as we are promoting them," Hugdahl says. — Andrew Schaick Growing opportunities
