WITH VIEWS LIKE THIS, TOURISM IS A CERTAINTY. Kewaunee is home to two of Lake Michigan's 26 lighthouses, including the
43-foot Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse (pictured), which is still in use today. The Pierhead was built in 1891 with the light added in 1931. Situated on a prime piece of Lake Michigan shoreline, tourism is heavy in all
four seasons. "Winter sports and tourism are big in our county," says Jennifer Brown,
executive director of the economic development corporation for Kewaunee County. "And we have a great deal of regional tourism here with snowmobiling, sledding, snowshoeing and more." Kewaunee isn't the only area fruitful due to tourism. According to the
Wisconsin Department of Tourism, Wisconsin tourism comprises over $87 million in overnight and day outings. With every $1 million in traveler spending, 12 jobs are created in Wisconsin, which translates into 1 out of 9 jobs depending upon travel and tourism. –By Kate Baer
