✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ NEW MANUFACTURING ALLIANCE All Star Mentor FILM PUTS STATE'S MANUFACTURING SECTOR IN THE SPOTLIGHT J ust a couple of months after airing statewide on Wisconsin Public Television, a one-hour documentary on the state's manufacturing industry is already breaking down stereotypes and putting the industry in a new light. Now the makers of "Manufacturing the Future" plan to break the documentary up into smaller segments making it easier to show students and others interested in manufacturing as a career choice. "Manufacturing the Future" MIKE MASAR ✯ ✯ ✯ Georgia-Pacific Green Bay Job title: Senior staff/project engineer Job duties: Equipment design and installation, project management, maintenance support. What's most interesting about your job? Working with a variety of people and installing state of the art equipment. What is the most rewarding part of your job? Seeing a successful equipment installation that is valued by the crews and appreciated by the maintenance group. How did you end up on this career path? I enjoyed science in high school but also enjoyed building things. What sets Mike apart? "He has served as a formal mentor to one of only 14 high schools in the country to be a part of Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam program. During his 32-year career with Georgia-Pacific, he mentored "scores of entry-level engineers just starting their careers," says Mike Kawleski, who nominated Mike for the honor. Go online to www.newmfgalliance.org to view videos of the NEW Manufacturing All Stars 14 NEW MANUFACTURING ALLIANCE J was produced by Educational Television Productions of Northeast Wisconsin and sponsored by Wisconsin Public Television and the NEW Manufacturing Alliance, a regional group of manufacturers that works with educational institutions and other stakeholders to promote the industry. The Alliance — with help from the film's director Alex Zacarias — edited the film into five modules that can then be shown to students. According to Ann Franz, coordinator for the Alliance, the five modules and a teacher's guide will be given to teachers to use in classrooms. A guide document and a DVD with the modules is now available to educators.
