Plastics Corp. received the 2014 Excellence in Business Award from Advance, the economic development branch of the Greater Green Bay Chamber, at the Chamber's annual dinner on Oct. 21. N.E.W. Plastics was recognized in part for its strong growth, including sales growth of 10 percent from fiscal year 2012 to 2013, and projected 5 percent growth from 2013 to fiscal year 2014. The company also made several significant investments in its infrastructure, including more than $1.5 million in equipment. Additionally, it pursued global food safety standards, partnered with high schools to offer student programs and encouraged community involvement among its employees. SCHREIBER FOODS NAMED EXEMPLARY EMPLOYER Schreiber Foods of Green Bay was presented with the Wisconsin Governor's Exemplary Employer Award in October at the ASPIRO Employer Appreciation Luncheon for its efforts in employing individuals with disabilities. Past recipients of the award include Festival Foods, Culver's, Dean Distributing, DeLeers Millwork and Subway. ASPIRO's Community Employment Program supports employment for people with disabilities as well as working with employers on training, orientation, securing tax credits and other services to help facilitate employment. ACH FOAM TECHNOLOGIES EXPANDS IN WISCONSIN ACH Foam Technologies will add a second facility in Fond du Lac. The new 40,000-square-foot facility at 1739 Fox Ridge Drive will help the company meet rising demand for EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam products. The new space is scheduled to open in January. EVENT|NEWS 2014 NEW NORTH SUMMIT COMING TO SHEBOYGAN N ew North, Inc., is hosting its 11th annual summit on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan. Themed "Every Part Counts," the 2014 summit features speakers and sessions that highlight workforce, entrepreneurship and education stories in the New North region. The full-day event is designed for business executives, education leaders, non-profit heads, manufacturers, elected officials, community members and other stakeholders. Networking begins at 8 a.m. and the program starts at 9 a.m. A midday luncheon presents an additional networking opportunity with the expected 700-plus attendees. The 2015 Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Vitality Index Study will be presented by the NEW Manufacturing Alliance as the afternoon portion of the program. The event will include an overview of economic development in the region and state over the past year. The registration fee is $90, or $100 at the door on the day of the event. F SMALL BUSINESS JOB FAIR PLANNED AT FVTC T he Fox Valley Technical College Venture Center is holding a Small Business Job Fair on Monday, Nov. 17 as part of a weeklong series of events highlighting Global Entrepreneur Week in November. The fair will be at FVTC's Appleton campus inside Entrance 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Co-sponsored by the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce & Industry, this is the region's first- ever career-based offering in which entrepreneurs will share their needs in hiring for workforce expansion. The job fair will also include breakout sessions for aspiring entrepreneurs and existing small business owners. The Small Business Job Fair is free.
