The foundation established for the supply-chain market initiative Jerry Murphy New North, Inc. Executive Director From building the brand to winning outcomes A subtle, but important shiſt has occurred for the New North region and for the organization, New North, Inc. We have shiſted from the work of starting and operating an organization – and building a regional brand – to leveraging the organization and the brand to hit regional economic development outcomes. The collaborative system of partnerships built to accelerate new business prospecting in the region took time to build. But in the past year, it provided a solid, regional response to 25 prospects, resulting in three “second looks” and one win with the arrival of a new business, Prolamina, to the region. for Wind Energy — Wisconsin Wind Works — has successfully built membership from seven members in 2007 to roughly 300 firms in 2011. This hard work has joined members together as a nationally recognized, collective voice that is significant in terms of credibility and effect. The primary function of New North, Inc. is connecting the region’s resources to each other for leverage, synergy, critical scale, efficiency and effectiveness. Branding affords a common, neutral thread to link resources together; collaboration serves to structure mutual work with mutual benefit and outcomes; and networking provides a way to communicate opportunities born of new relationships and discoveries. This mid-year report highlights specific work, ongoing work and important work. It features both work from New North’s strategic task groups and work championed and advanced by private and public partners of the New North. Recognizing and giving credit for the leadership in this work is very important; I hope that we’re doing that well. Success, from all who are working hard to achieve economic development, consistently validates that the region is genuinely “north of what you expect.” STRONG & CONSISTENT so you can be too. We focus exclusively on businesses and individuals with sophisticated needs. We help our clients achieve success, which in return leads to our success. In fact, First Business reported net income of $1.3 million for the first quarter of 2011, up 48% over the same period last year.
