2 N e w N o r t h , i N c . is is one year where getting beyond the weather of the first half of the year seemed – by all of us – as something of a goal. e cold weather didn't slow down our progress; in fact, it seemed to intensify as the national, state and regional economies continued slow, but steady, improvement through the first half of the year. Our open file for prospect-related activity is returning to pre- recession levels. We are working with several local and state partners on nine prospect projects and moving toward closing on as many as three projects – including new investment and jobs – before the end of the year. is year's mid-year report highlights new dimensions for ongoing External marketing, global opportunities, talent recruitment among 2014 projects Jerry Murphy New North, inc. executive Director work (see the dashboard in the center of this piece) and the introduction of important new initiatives: e Northeast Wisconsin Business Locator brochure has triggered tactical outreach to Midwest and national site selectors: www.thenewnorth. com/businesslocator e Global New North team's work to increase exports now includes planning and follow-through for trade missions to South America this year and NAFTA countries in 2016: www.thenewnorth.com/global An information technology talent gap is being addressed as a new challenge for regional businesses, but one that is following an extremely successful "regional alliance" model Talent recruiting to the region is being enhanced with an updated web-based recruiting tool to launch later this year Work is beginning on mapping the supply chain with the help of a recently awarded Department of Defense grant to the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission. As part of this project, New North Inc. is involved in the creation of a web-based directory of suppliers to Oshkosh Corporation and Marinette Marine Corporation, ultimately helping those companies identify opportunities in non-defense contract work and support diversification. We're truly enjoying the challenges and opportunities of the current economy. Many great initiatives are under way, including many led by our partners and collaborators.
