Enterprising NONPROFITS Building a Strong Community of Nonprofits, Businesses, & Volunteers W e at First Business work with a growing number of nonprofit organizations throughout the region. One of the things we noticed coming out of the recession was that although the nonprofit community did an amazing job of responding to the challenging economic conditions, there seemed to be the need for a consistent forum for nonprofits to connect, collaborate and communicate with other nonprofit partners across the region. I called my friends at the Volunteer Center to see if they too saw this issue, and asked if they'd help build an initiative to fix the gap. As a result, Enterprising NONPROFITS was launched. Our first event is designed to: • Share best practices • Provide economical and valuable board training • Create a forum enabling corporate community specialists to excel in their efforts • Allow executive directors and development directors to learn best practices with peers • Provide opportunities for potential board volunteers to connect with executive directors looking for board talent As a result, it is our hope that the local nonprofit scene will strengthen their business and operational practices, working strategically to accomplish their goals – thus, fundraising will come easier and the community will receive greater support. We believe a strong nonprofit community in Northeast Wisconsin contributes to a strong economy.
