While orange barrels will be a familiar sight this summer, the U.s. highway 41 interstate project is more than 60 percent complete. e Mason street/highway 54 exchange, shown in an aerial shot, was opened to traffic in July 2012, says Mark Kantola, project communication manager for the Wisconsin Department of transportation. at part of the project added roundabouts at the ramp terminals and at the intersection with taylor street. e project also added a bike and pedestrian pathway on the bridge over highway 41. Upcoming work on the project in green Bay includes the Oneida street/Waube Lane interchange, bridge updates and work on the highway from glory Road to 9th street. Details on all of the projects can be found at www.us41wisconsin.gov. In total, the project will upgrade 14 miles in Brown County and 17 miles in Winnebago County, add 40 roundabouts and expand traffic lanes from four to between six and 10 lanes. Beth Ropson, director of sales at the greater green Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau, says the highway 41 project will help boost access to the region, especially for conventioneers traveling from within the state or elsewhere in the Midwest. "It's so neat to see it come together, and it really will make travel easy," Ropson says. "Making it easy for them is one more way that we can tout green Bay to groups and convince them to come our way." — Nikki Kallio Round and round
