FINAL FRAME Tunnel of light P h oto g r a p h co u r t e s y o f K at h l e e n C ay lo r , w w w. c ay lo r p h oto. co m When the sun goes south for the winter, it's time to make our own light. Celebrations such as the Green Bay Botanical Garden's WPS Garden of Lights can help. The garden includes a quarter million bulbs, most of them energy-efficient LED. About 20,000 of them are used in the caterpillar (shown). It takes about 10 to 15 volunteers six weeks to set up the lights, using two miles of extension cords. To avoid lines two miles long, people are encouraged to buy tickets ahead of time at the Botanical Garden or Festival Foods. Last year, more than 50,000 people viewed the Garden of Lights. The event offers the chance for holiday company outings, too, says Rachel Bessert, marketing and communications manager for the Green Bay Botanical Garden. The Grand Corporate Night offers tickets for up to 1,000 people to have exclusive access to the light show and visitor center. "This would be during a weeknight, so companies could have their office party and be the only ones at the garden to enjoy the light show," Bessert says. The garden also has a variety of spaces for private parties, and the holiday rental packages include tickets to the WPS Garden of Lights, which continues through Dec. 30.
