6 N E W M A N U F A C T U R I N G A L L I A N C E What does your company make? Aluminum modules to support construction of the U.S. Navy Littoral Combat Ship. How do your company's products make a difference in people's lives? We provide the men and women of the U.S. Navy the equipment necessary to defend our nation's interests. What are your job duties? My job duties are measuring and fitting hangers and spools in correct locations on aluminum modules. This requires reading blueprints by looking at Navisworks software by Autodesk. Once everything is tacked in the correct location, I complete the final weld using either a MIG or TIG welding machine. Why do you enjoy your job? I love my job very much. I enjoy the fact that I make something useful out of small or large hunks of metal. Knowing that I build U.S. Navy ships for a living is something I take pride in. Being happy and productive at work and loving what I do lead to satisfaction. Why do you choose to live in Northeast Wisconsin? It wasn't so much a choice as destiny. One of my sisters was here before me, and I decided to stay. How did you decide on this career path? At the time, I was getting my GED at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, and I originally wanted to pursue a career in real estate. But then I heard about welding, and it caught my attention because it sounded different and interesting, and I decided to take the welding path instead. Jenniffer Delgado Fincantieri ACE Marine, Green Bay Hannah DuCharme Suburban Enterprises, Appleton What does your company make? We make electrical assemblies, including prewired transformers, box builds, temporary power units, electrical power drops, battery systems and much more. How do your company's products make a difference in people's lives? We make the onsite construction process easier. Our customers can install our products up to 80 percent faster compared with building them from scratch. Due to the labor shortage in construction, our products allow for smaller installation crews and shorter schedules. What are your job duties? My job duty is assembling a wide variety of electrical components. Why do you enjoy your job? I enjoy my job because I like to work with my hands. I like to see how things fit together. I also enjoy all the people I work with — they're very nice and make me laugh. Why do you choose to live in Northeast Wisconsin? I grew up here, most of my family is around here, and now I live here because of my job, too. How did you decide on this career path? I decided on this career because I tried college and it didn't quite work out. I started at Suburban Enterprises as a youth apprentice when I was 16, so I knew when college didn't work out that Suburban was still a very good option for me to pursue. What classes and training most prepared you with the necessary skills? The youth apprenticeship allowed me to go to school half of the day and then work the second half.
