6 N E W M A N U F A C T U R I N G A L L I A N C E What does your company make? We make direct thermal and thermal transfer labels. How do your company's products make a difference in people's lives? Our labels help other companies get their product out in a timely manner. They also help their customers understand what the ordered product is, whether it's a deli label telling you the expiration date or a pharmacy label telling you what medicine you are taking — it all helps the economy as a whole. What are your job duties? Taking raw material such as liner, facer, silicone and adhesive and applying them all adequately. Ensuring the die cut, color, rewind and perforation are correct per job order. Why do you enjoy your job? It feels rewarding to make something from scratch that will benefit someone else. Each day brings something new and there is always something to learn. Everyone here is friendly and helpful. How did you decide on this career path? I have a high interest in how and why things work the way they do. I am very hands-on and like things to be perfect, so this career allows me to do all that. Why do you choose to live in Northeast Wisconsin? I am originally from the area, so this is where my family lives. How do your company's products make a difference in people's lives? GP provides tissue products to help keep people clean and safe. This played an even bigger role recently with COVID-19 causing a high demand of sanitary products. What are your job duties? As an electrical reliability engineer, it is my job to ensure that I keep the equipment healthy and reliable so that our machines do not go down. I also help technicians troubleshoot problems properly and safely. Why do you enjoy your job? Troubleshooting is my favorite part of the job. It gives me the opportunity to work with technicians and dig into a problem and figure out what is wrong with the system. It also allows me to be hands on with the equipment to understand how it works and how to make it better. Why do you choose to live in Northeast Wisconsin? I have lived in Wisconsin for most of my life and I have family and friends in the area. I also enjoy the beautiful weather and recreational activities that Wisconsin offers. What education and training most prepared you with the necessary skills? I have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a certificate in power systems from Michigan Technological University. I think the two most important things that have helped me get the necessary skills for my career are math and curiosity, which allow you to always challenge the status quo.
