The Palm Beach International Boat Show, held in March, included vessels made by Burger Boat Company of Manitowoc, says Ron Cleveringa, vice president of sales and marketing at Burger Boat. Particularly, the show featured the Lady Sarah (pictured here in North Carolina) as well as a vintage Burger called The Next Port. The company met with prospective clients, brokers, designers, yacht captains and crew. The show also featured vessels made by Palmer Johnson of Sturgeon Bay, Marquis of Pulaski and Cruisers of Oconto. Burger is a custom builder of yachts for customers worldwide – and interest in luxury vessels from those customers is on the rebound since the economic downturn in 2008. "We've seen over the last few years a decent uptick in activity, but this year seems to have been the most robust," Cleveringa says. "I think people's attitudes are getting better – there's just more confidence." That means Burger will need help filling orders. "We're hoping to really expand our workforce in the next year," Cleveringa says. The company will be on the lookout for designers, engineers, metal workers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters and others with skills that apply to the yacht-building trade. — Nikki Kallio w w w. i n s i g h t o n b u s i n e s s . c o m
