"We call it modern American fare … with a strong emphasis on local/sustainable/fresh and made-in-house goods," says Becket's owner Chris Larson. e downtown restaurant offers a diverse menu designed to please any palate from vegetarian to carnivore. For the former, the Walnut Burger ($12), made with ground walnuts, cheddar cheese and spices, topped with tomato chutney and served with choice of side, offers a satisfying meat alternative. Albright swears by the Salmon Salad ($14), featuring grilled salmon served on a bed of seasonal greens. For meat lovers, Becket's menu features delights from its sister grocery, Wagner Market, which cuts and ages its own steaks. e All-Natural Whiskey Peppercorn Sirloin ($21) is served with whiskey peppercorn cream sauce and choice of side. For Albright, that side choice would be the Becket's Potato Croquette, a battered, fried mashed potato ball that she says offers a little piece of heaven. e Becket's chefs work closely with area farmers, so its spring through fall menus, in particular, offer special surprises, Larson says. In addition to its regular menu, the restaurant features daily and weekly specials. For a sweet finish, you can check out the dessert menu with all offerings baked from scratch in house. — Jessica iel
