FINAL FRAME A sporting chance 54 | Insight M a r c h 2 013 P h oto g r a p h co u r t e s y o f S y n e r g y F i e l d s Green Bays new Synergy Fields features a 13,500square-foot, all-synthetic turf field, giving young people and professional athletes a year-round indoor sports training venue in the New North. Synergy, owned by Scotty Smith, works in partnership with Smiths other business, House of Speed, to train athletes in soccer, football, baseball and softball. The field already has several specialized training camps planned for this year, including a visit from British soccer experts (the other football), and an offensive lineman camp run by a former player for the New York Jets. (House of Speed) has grown quite a bit over the last three years, Smith says. Weve brought in professional athletes and worked with some Packers and some guys from other pro teams, and we needed a facility that could get the kids on a grass-type surface, obviously to get them out of the elements here in Wisconsin. The venue also will be host to the professional Green Bay Blizzard indoor football team, hosting the teams tryouts, training camp and regular season practices. The public will be able to attend regular practice sessions. But blizzard or not, like-minded athletes both aspiring and pro will have a new place to improve their game. Just because theres snow on the ground doesnt mean that we cant be like (training thats) happening down south in Louisiana and Florida and places like that, says Smith. Just because the grass isnt green on the outside, its green inside, and we can get it done indoors. Nikki Kallio w w w. i n s i g h t o n b u s i n e s s . c o m
