educ ati o n & tr a i n i n g Second chance first Alternative education program gives kids real world experience By Linda Dums ���This partnership allows a student to earn a high school diploma through nontraditional methods.��� - Scott Kettler, general manager of Plexus���s Neenah operations Xavier Stringer of Green Bay was doing poorly in school, putting his education, and his future, at risk. ���I was really falling behind in school,��� says Stringer, 17, who felt disengaged from the traditional education setting. However, his school counselor at West High School in Green Bay recommended Second Chance Partners for Education, a work-based learning program that launched last 14 | Insight on Manufacturing ��� January 2013 year with school districts in northeast Wisconsin. ���I just liked the fact that it submerged you into the work field and gave you a lot of work opportunities and a lot of good things to put on your resume,��� he says. Second Chance Partners for Education (SCPFE) is a nonprofit organization that partners schools with manufacturing companies to offer a unique educational model for high school juniors and seniors based in the business environment. Second Chance is a triangulation of resources that currently includes the Second Chance organization, more than 75 business partners, and 25 school district partners, including 36 high schools, all in Wisconsin.
